Physics is a science that concerns itself with the research of natural phenomena. Indeed, scientifically researched processes are all rooted in physical processes. Physics therefore represents the most basic approach in understanding the ideas and relationships underlying a new invention. Traditionally, patents in physics  emphasize  the areas of optics, acoustics, information memories, control systems, measuring instruments and materials sciences. Among the fundamental sciences, physics provides all the requirements for understanding interdisciplinary inventions, e. g., in the field of medical engineering.
