Information on Buildings
Having previously been split up in two office locations, K&W moved to a large office building at Prinz-Ludwig-Straße 40A in Freising in September 2001. This gave the firm the possibility it needed to further expand. This building of the art nouveau era was completely renovated as an historical monument; however, it was perfectly modified inside to meet to our needs. It thus allowed us to maintain our Corporate Identity as it had been known to our visitors for many years. A further expansion of K&W into an adjacent building which was also under historic preservation took place in September 2011.
Our main office building originally served as an officers‘ club
of the “Prinz-Arnulf-Barracks” which changed their name to
“Vimy-Barracks” after World War II.
The neighbour building, our second office building, was originally used as an officers’ riding hall.
From 1904 to 1906 these barracks were built in the neo-baroque style for the first Bavarian Rifle Battalion. The barrack area consisted among others of a former casino, an officers’ club and an officers’ riding hall (i.e. our current office buildings), a parade ground and the Vimy-Palais.
The water tower next to our building was also built in 1906
for the water supply of the barracks. Once a year, this tower
is opened to the public for visiting. This tower as well as the
tower of our office building offers spectacular views over
the city of Freising and Munich International Airport – on
particularly beautiful days (when we have what is called
“Föhn” or Chinook) it is even possible to see the Alps.
After World War II the U.S. Army held the line in Freising. In 1957 the Bundeswehr (Federal German Army) came to Freising, and it took until 1966 that all three Freising barracks were transferred to the Bundeswehr. The Vimy barracks were dissolved after the end of the Cold War in 1993, and in 1996 the adjacent buildings to the north were torn down and replaced by modern buildings. In the area that was under historical preservation, house number 25 was purchased by the city of Freising, and the reconstruction of the whole complex was planned to preserve the historical character of the buildings.
The apartments of the soldiers were rebuilt as condominiums
and only the officers’ club and the officers’ riding hall were
intended for commercial use.
Since 2001, our office buildings, residential homes, a kindergarden as well as the 'Haus der Vereine' (house of clubs) have been situated around the former parade ground. The architecture with its splendid and ornate fronts as well as the park areas have been preserved during the redevelopment.
After having been vacant for nearly 10 years, the officers’
riding hall was renovated and refurbished according to
the plans of our firm in the style of the officers’ club and
was inaugurated in October 2011.
